tailgating 101

get your game face on! the south’s favorite time of year is finally here. saturdays during football season mostly consist of friends, good music, plenty of team spirit & amazing food to nosh on before the big game. our go-to set up consists of the obligatory sodas and chips, but fried chicken makes everything better (and may just be our good luck charm…ssshh). a side of creamy cole slaw compliments any fried dish wonderfully, or if you prefer, those hot wings bathed in sauce! if your mouth is watering already, see below for our favorite fried chicken recipe. clocking in at 35 minutes total cooking time, it’s so easy!

you will need:

1 3-4 lb. whole chicken, cut into pieces

1 cup all-purpose flour

salt and black pepper to taste

1 teaspoon paprika

1 quart vegetable oil (crisco all the way!)

**if you like your chicken with a little kick, you can add cajun seasoning to taste**

directions:

-season chicken with salt, pepper & paprika, then roll in flour.

-add a thin layer of oil to a large, heavy skillet (about ½ inch) & heat to 365 degrees. add chicken to the oil and cover. fry until golden brown, turning the pieces once, 15-20 minutes. drain on paper towels & serve!

now that you’ve got your staple plate, get out there and enjoy this tailgating season!
