from the recipe box – homemade apple cider

a coffee a day is a must for us betties, but sometimes we cherish that something different on extra cold mornings. homemade apple cider is not only a tasty treat that is super simple to make, but it will make your house smell divine. d-i-v-i-n-e.  although it takes five hours of time to prepare (you can substitute a crock pot for a regular stockpot if you prefer), mostly all of that time is hands off, so sit back and enjoy the aroma!

homemade apple cider

you will need:

-10 apples , quartered  (any variety)

-4 small cinnamon sticks

-6 whole cloves

-1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

-1 gallon water

-1/2 cup brown sugar

add the apples, cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg and water to a large stockpot and bring to a boil. reduce heat to low and simmer for five hours. strain the apple cider mixture into a pitcher. add the sugar to the pitcher and stir until dissolved. you are ready to serve!  we told you it was easy!
